How The Roads are made
Our surveyors constantly drive around Singapore to update current and new
road information. Through these daily surveying, the road outlines are then
compiled and captured. These data is then sent to our Map Making Centre to be
processed and converted into usable data.
(1) Raw GPS Data
obtained through Surveying. Our surveyors drove the entire Singapore at least 5 times to get consistent data.
Singapore's Skeleton
(2) When completed,
this is how the road
network of Singapore
look like
This is also known as the Skeleton of Singapore.
(3) The breadth of the new
road outline (in purple) is
expanded uniformly (from
the blue line above) to a
unique width based on the
road type.
(4) Finally the Road
Outline is made.
The map above is then sent to surveyors who will walk through the entire area to collect the road names, lat/long and other road attributes.
Road attributes (road signs, road directions and road names) are collected manually by ground surveyors.
