Serving a fusion of Nordic and local fare, diners can now experience Copenhagen in a quaint corner of Millenia Walk. ABOF is a good addition to chill-out spots in the city. Opened recently in September, it is now is one of the few restaurants in Singapore which serves Scandinavian cuisine.
The Vibe Tranquility and timelessness surrounds the restaurant, a feel from the minimalist deco and apparent white ratten chairs which puts one in a relaxed mood. Choose alfresco dining or beat the heat in the air-conditioned dining area, ABOF promises a peaceful yet sassy experience. Separated by a mere glass wall, high chairs pepper the outskirts of ABOF glass walls, their white colour a soothing contrast to black armchairs within the interiors of the restaurant, reflecting the American influence of a typical town café design. An array of Scandinavian lights suspended from the ceiling illuminates the restaurant with its starry effects like little stars of the galaxy.
The Food Scandinavian dishes are smooth on the throat, easy to digest and leaves a feeling of bliss in the diner. Nordic fare emphasizes the essence of food and the simplicity in preparation with a mix of cold and warm dishes. The finely sliced strips of Scandinavian Roast Pork with Crackling Skin ($16), had slight traces of fats with hints of spices mixed in traditional sauce wheting the appetite for more. A welcoming option is the Best Friends Platter ($36) shared between two people. A name personally coined by Ms Violet Yeo, the owner, this dish strengthens friendships by allowing friends to know each other's favourite dishes. Delightful on the taste-buds are the liver pate, smoked salmon rolled with mashed eggyolk, fresh water shrimps, roast beef topped with Remoulade sauce, herring and oysters shots – tomatoes, two fresh oysters and a tinge of Vodka. Oysters are served in shots – tomatoes, two fresh oysters and a tinge of Vodka make the Bloody Mary. Whilst requiring an acquired taste, oyster-lovers will enjoy the smooth oysters and sour aftertaste gliding down their throat without dirtying their fingers. The roast beef is topped with Remoulade sauce, a tangy mix of mayonnaise, mustard and lemon giving it a refreshing and light feel to the palate. Coupled with freshness of other dishes, Best Friends Platter awakens the senses for more. For the light eaters, indulge in Scandinavian open-face sandwiches ($11-$15), topped with a choice of roast beef, herring, smoked salmon, fresh water shrimps and grilled vegetables.

The SD Food Advisor's take on ABOF Restaurant & Tea Lounge: The fusion of Nordic and local fare is a refreshing and healthy change from other cuisines in Singapore. The dishes though simple with minimal oil and fats, yet each in its own flavour, hold a delicate balance amongst palate such that one does not tire of the food easily. The prices are reasonable promising quality in exchange but portions may be small for those with a hearty appetite. It appeals to one with the luxury of time, to lounge in and enjoy home-brewed beverages, home-baked desserts and authentic Scandinavian delights. For those who do not have the time to spare, fret not for one may swing by for a take-away option.
