Boasting a menu that includes Southern Style ribs, hot, hot Buffalo Wings and a fine selection of imported beers, you’d expect Jerry’s Barbeque & Grill to be popular with the expat crowd. And you’d be right. Ever since opening their first steak & rib joint a few years ago in Jalan Kayu, the folks at Jerry’s barbeque and Grill have gone from strength to strength and last year opened a place near Orchard Road . This is their third outlet in Singapore (they also have a restaurant on 92 Club Street in addition to their flagship location at 277 Jalan Kayu) and it is a great place to escape from the heat, or duck in from the rain and have a late afternoon snack or early evening feast.
The beers are plentiful and cheap, while the food is flavourful and filling. From spaghetti and burgers to those house specialties of ribs, wings and steaks, Jerry’s has you covered. Dessert is also worth considered with an array of homemade brownies and cakes. From their fantastic menu, to the ambience it provides, it will be the pleasant suburban experience for the expats and locals too.
Food Like many places that offer American style food, the servings at Jerry’s are quantifiable as a full meal. And the appetizers are no exceptions. Selections range from a Nachos Supreme plate which consists of fresh, crispy tortilla chips served with melted jalapeno cheese, jalapeno peppers, sour cream, homemade salsa and topped off with some chili con carne. In spite of its latin loving ingredients, it’s something not out of place in a California or Texas eatery. If the Cali-Mex spice of the nachos doesn’t do the trick then you may just want to take the plunge and go for the Wings….spicy, mucho caliente Buffalo Wings. No, buffaloes can't fly. These are chicken wings named after Buffalo , New York , where they first became popular. Jerry’s actually offers three levels of spicy intensity depending on your spicy-intake ability. Smoking, Intensi-Fire and Chef's Challenge. The names tell the story. Be sure to have plenty of napkins handy…these wings are as messy as they are hot.
For a main dish at Jerry’s Barbeque & Grill there are a variety of spicy pastas, burgers and chicken dishes, but at some point you must try the ribs and the steak. The BBQ Baby Back Pork Ribs is up there with the best. The ribs are smothered in a zesty, tangy barbeque sauce that takes nothing away from the rich, charcoal taste of the ribs underneath, Unlike a lot of ribs that have more bone than meat….these ribs were loaded with tender, well-seasoned pork. Served with sautéed vegetables and a large, baked potato covered in sour cream, the Baby Back meal may well have you fitting on your cowboy boots and scouting around for a rodeo soon after.
The steak at Jerry’s is another rewarding experience. These absolutely huge ( 220 grams) Prime Rib Cut steaks are loaded with flavour and are surprisingly easy to digest. Well-marinated and seasoned, these lovingly cooked steaks virtually melt in your mouth as the juicy essence fills your head with visions of the Midwest plains or the Australian outback. Served with a baked potato, buttered corn on the cob and sun ripened tomatos, the prime rib steaks are smothered in your choice of mushroom or pepper sauce.
Atmosphere Jerry’s Barbeque & Grill at the Tanglin Shopping Centre has a bright, open-air outdoor barbeque feel to it. Cool breezes pervade and the exit leads directly to the nifty diners of the Tanglin Shopping Centre. Perfect for that after-dinner walk-off.
