Part of the vibrant restaurant and dining scene in the Robertson quay area, Mondo Mio is located near the trendy Robertson walk/Mohammad Sultan area. It is a favourite among residents and workers nearby for its welcoming atmosphere and convenient location.
The Vibe The restaurant is more of a casual dining place, thus the atmosphere there is pretty laid back. Diners can choose between indoor and outdoor seating area, though dining outdoors can be really warm and humid in the daytime, with the surrounding area filled with concrete pavements and high-rise buildings.
The crowd is a mixture of office workers from nearby buildings like UE square, families from the service apartments right next to the restaurant, and the occasional partygoer.
The Food What would a visit to an Italian restaurant be without pasta? The Linguine Frutti de Mare Salsa Pormodoro ($20) is one of the most popular dishes in Mondo Mio. The linguine is accompanied by generous portions of seafood (mussels, prawns, squid and scallop), dressed in traditional tomato sauce. The seafood is fresh, with a firm texture. The variety of seafood used also ensures that diners would not get tired of eating the same thing by introducing a different taste and texture with every bite.
Prosciutto e Rucola ($18) is a mozzarella cheese and prosiutto ham pizza with tomato sauce and arugula . Always a favourite dish amongst the younger crowd, the pizza is freshly baked and served piping hot. An amalgamation of salty (mozzarella and prosiutto ), slight bitterness ( arugula ) and sweet & sour (tomato sauce) treats you on the pleasant rollercoaster ride of tastes. Top that up with a crispy crust and you'll have a pizza that you can never have enough of.
If you prefer to have a hearty meal of meat rather than the usual pasta and pizza, try the Tagliata de Manzo con Rucola e Parmigiano ($28). Tender, juicy sliced beef is topped with some arugula and cherry tomatoes. While the beef is tasty and cooked just right, those who prefer a more varied meal may like to order it with another dish.
The Service The friendly service definitely makes the dining experience more pleasant. However, the restaurant gets quite busy during meal times and it may be hard to grab the attention of the staff then.
The SD Food Advisor's take on Mondo Mio Mondo Mio is a nice place to hang out, chitchat and have a nice meal at the same time. Prices are slightly on the higher side, but they do have a set-meal during lunchtime. The set meal consists of four items – an appetizer, main course, dessert and tea/coffee. At just $12, it is a great buy and a perfect chance to try out different items at the restaurant.
