The Vibe Set in pastel colours of peach marble against mosaic-stone walls, Plaza Brasserie oozes an aura of tranquility and simplicity. With tiled floors and aluminum panels lining kitchen tops, the restaurant can be likened to a larger version of one's dining hall back home. Pretty shot-glasses of desserts sit daintily on glass panels running along the counter add a touch of splendour amidst silver tureens of steaming hot dishes.
The Food Exploring a range of Euro-Asian fare, Plaza Brasserie dishes out local delights like Sze Chuan kung pao chicken, mee goring, Singapore laksa and a range of Western as well as Asian style desserts.
For a lunch buffet available at $28+++ daily (and dinner buffet at $32+++ on weekdays; $35+++ on weekends), customers get their money's worth with unlimited helpings of soft shell crabs, fresh sashimi, giant prawns, ox-tail and other dishes. Enjoy a bowl of Singapore Laksa cooked on the spot by chefs right down to the last shellfish in the bowl. Fresh shellfish and fat prawns compliment glass-like noodles that slide down the throat effortlessly. The laksa is not too spicy and has a generous helping of coconut milk, making this a sinfully irresistible treat.
Get high on Drunken Prawns in Herbal Soup, with three king-sized, succulent and juicy fresh prawns peeking out from clear soup. Refreshing Chinese herbs add a cooling yet sweet aftertaste to both prawns and the soup, leaving one refreshed and feeling healthier. To top it all off, prawn shells are a breeze to remove.
Nobody can resist the mouth-watering Tempura Soft Shell Crab fried to a golden-brown crisp. A favourite amongst adults and children, its crispy tempura batter crumble and melt to reveal soft and flaky crab flesh. Combine a chewy soft shell and tasty crab meat, the restaurant expects frequent top-ups of this signature dish.
For the sweet-toothed, a large chocolate fountain invites diners to coat their sticks of marshmallows, random fruits and nuts with thick, creamy chocolate. Over-indulgence is inevitable with such temptation, but definitely worth it.
The Service Quick to seat guests and enjoy the buffet at their own leisurely pace, staff at Plaza Brasserie work hard to keep the food counters constantly replenished with food to satisfy hungry stomachs. However, service was a little slow that day, with plates not cleared and empty glasses on the table even after 10 minutes. Perhaps the spread was simply too tempting for guests to pause in between refills of their own plates.
SD Food Advisor's take on Plaza Brasserie: One truly feels Asian with a whiff of Plaza Brasserie's range of local delights. The buffet spread had enough dishes to fascinate and shot-glasses of desserts finish off a meal nicely, though it might be a little too sweet for some. Conveniently located nearer to housing estates in the East and Central Singapore , Plaza Brasserie no doubt appeals to families, young couples and foreign visitors with its authentic Asian fare.
