Take-away cuisine has always been regarded as one that is unhealthy, effortless and tasteless. However, the gourmet take-away, Something To Go located in the elegant Regent Hotel will change your mind. The gourmet cuisine prepared by the chefs here allures you into a gastronomical love affair indulging your senses in an unforgettable epicurean escapade.
The Vibe Located snugly away from the grand hotel lobby of the Regent Hotel, Something to Go was a concept breathed to life by Executive Chef Claudio Rossi. Formally a deli serving only light snacks and pastries, it is now a stopover for gourmet take-away cuisine. The enticing selections of salads, freshly baked pastries and heavenly cakes displayed at the counter are just too tempting to resist.
The Food Don't expect simple fan-fare meals such as mere soups or pizza. Taking on an audacious approach in catering specifically to the choosy tastes of busy executives and business travelers, Something to Go offers more than sheer snack portions. The list is as comprehensive as one can get, ranging from continental to asian cuisine.
For starters, go light and easy with the Vegetarian Greek salad with feta cheese and oregano vinaigrette ($10). With its generous portions of olive, cherry tomatoes, capsicum, cucumbers and onions, this tantalising salad is a refreshing treat, both to the eyes as well as the tummy. An outburst of freshness greets your palate as you munch on the crispy crunchy vegetables, paired off harmoniously with a dressing that was delightfully subtle and light.
Otherwise opt for the Tomato and mozzarella caprese ($11), a traditional Italian entrée drenched with basil pesto infused with olive oil. A great accompaniment to go with white wine or champagne anytime of the day, and an exceptional entrée to showcase for entertainment purposes at home. A charming starter to impress will definitely be the chilled tiger prawns with mango and cocktail sauce ($15). Succulent and fresh, choose to dip it with the spicy sauce provided or eat it as it is. A tinge of sweetness ending with a sour sensation delights your palate thoroughly.
For a more wholesome touch to your meal, there is the beef Lasagna ($15) which has a generous portion sufficient for 2. It is rich and flavourful, with warm melted cheese oozing out on its first few bites. This is definitely one dish which will arouse the palates of the nostalgic business travelers to savour an unadulterated home-cooked meal while away from home. Side accompaniments such as peas, broccoli and tomato help to harmonize it all. Seafood lovers will do well to try the healthy roasted cod fish Marinara ($18) which is commendably well marinated and tasty. Local fare includes the wok-fried beef kway teow with black pepper beef ($15) which was definitely a heart-warming dish for the locals at heart. However it can be a tad too oily for older folks.
End the meal on a high note with the chocolate raspberry mousse cup ($6), a thick concentrated chocolate mousse. Pick up a soft loaf of home-made cranberry bread which tastes just perfect with the mozzarella cheese and tomatoes.
