About the restaurant:
I decided to visit this restaurant after reading the reviews on this website. It was my wife's birthday and I planned to give a her a nice surprise and we were supposed to end off our day with a nice romantic dinner at some place posh and class...and I picked Equinox.
Bad choice. Why? Please read on....
I made a reservation a day before and I specifically mentioned that since it was my wife's special day, I wanted a nice quiet corner.
The lady on the line(I really can't recall the name) replied chirpily that its not an issue and she could even throw in a complimentary cake.
It was a nice gesture, except it all ended here.
On that day, when we were escorted to our table, my wife was surprised that our table was along the walkway...and she mentioned that it seems as though they put up the table there last minute; the table seemed out of place.
I assured my wife that its okay as I had specifically asked for a quiet corner...but to our astonishment, as time went pass, it was apparant we were placed next to the walkway and all the customers that walked into this resturant had to pass our table!! Not to mention there were waiters/duty managers scurrying past in a hurry! There was no privacy at all!! I was quite upset as everytime we tried to talk, there will always be someone walking by! and on one occasion a waitress even dropped a bottle of water behind my table, and some of the water splashed onto my hair! The duty managers were more concerned with the spilled water and nobody asked if I was ok!
After our soup, I requested for a more private area from one of the duty manager.
They obliged and put us to another place...during which my wife asked if our table was a last minute inclusion because it's position seemed out of place, being put next to the counter walkway.
The duty manager explained that it was not the case.
During our dinner, from where we were seated, we saw 2 waiters clearing the table that we were given initially and to our astonishment, they moved the table away!! So it meant that it was not supposed to be there and we were given that even I had specifically requested for a quiet place!
When we were done with dinner, and having some small talk when a waiter just walked up and cleared our table w/o even asking for permission!!!!
How dare he!!!
At this point, I got quite upset but I couldn't show it.
After clearing our table, he proceeded to put a set of dessert cutlery on the table. and one minute later he was back, and cleared the cutlery..again this time w/o asking for permission! I stared and he apologised by saying that they have made a mistake, because we did not order dessert, hence he had to clear the table!
I was near boiling then and I waited for them to serve the complimentary cake that the lady on the line promised.
It never came!!! They had the gall to forget the cake!!! Visibly upset, I asked for the bill and took my leave.
Ordered Food:
1 Set dinner of Peking duck and 1 250g Steak.
My verdict:
Deco - nicely done up
Environment - noisy
Service - non existent at all
Food - So-so
