About the restaurant:
I was always impressed by Le Pont de Vie when they were based at the Action Theatre. Now they have moved to a beautifully renovated shop house at 26 Kandahar Street in Kampong Glam. The decor has a 1920's feel with a two tone of yellow and black theme complete with a grandiose chandelier. The front part is the more formal dining area, with an open, light feeling whereas the back area is darker and more intimate and contains a curved bar. The menu has changed since I last visited - it seems more adventurous and is better described as modern European/mediterranean.
Ordered Food:
I started with the escargot in puff pastry which was delicious and my partner chose the black truffle and cheese souffle - a fantastic concoction. My main course was the wild mushroom risotto which comes with grilled asparagus and is absolutely divine. My partner went for the pan-seared venison, complete with delicately roasted cloves of garlic, zucchini and pumpkin mash. The venison was tender and set off nicely by the pumpkin, garlic and zucchini. For desert I had the farmhouse cheese platter, complete with quince paste and vegetable sticks, which nicely rounded off the culinary experience, where as my date plumped for the chocolate molten cake and was equally impressed. Hats off to chef Patrick!
My verdict:
We really liked the ambiance of the new location. The extension of the food to include modern mediterranean fare while retaining a french flare is very successful and makes for an interesting dining experience. Of course the wines were every bit as good as we had come to expect from expert sommelier and restaurant manager Tye Yee Nen. We can't wait to work our way through the menu.
