The shopping centers of Yogyakarta city offer some fascinating tourist attractions. In one particular shopping complex alone, you can find at least six rich and ancient cultural heritages: Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat palace, Kereta museum, Taman Sari water castle, Alun-alun square and Gede Kauman mosque, all in the Kraton Complex.

Attempt to take a bike, pedicab or horse cart ride along MalioboroStreet near the complex to feel the peace and hospitality of the Jogjanese. The broad street’s sidewalks lined with sellers, hawkers and artisans present an exciting atmosphere even if you are in no need to rush off somewhere. Trying the delights at the Lesehan food stalls along Malioboro Street will give visitors an astonishing experience, enjoying traditional Javanese food like Gudeg. Three to five-star hotels are also available near the Kraton complex such as Santika, Grand Mercure, Sheraton Mustika, Hyatt Regency etc. Another option is the accommodations located at the south of Kraton Complex. One can find numerous guest houses and motels with an affordable price at Martijeron subdistrict (Prawirotaman, Suryodiningratan and Tirtodipuran Street).  

• Kraton Complex
  Located at the Kraton subdistrict, Kraton Complex consists of the Sultan’s residential, two Sultan’s squares (the north part and the south part) and the Sultan’s servants’ residence. The palace was built in 18th century with its grand and elegant Javanese architecture that was constructed to form the miniature model of the Javanese harmony cosmos Mount Merapiand Parangtritis beach. On the north part of Sultan’s square, there are other heritages buildings with Dutch colonial architecture such as Vrederburg fort and three other buildings (now used for government offices).
  
  Try to catch a shadow puppet performance during the weekend night, a traditional dance or gamelan orchestra performances which are held occasionally at the palace. Some ritual ceremonies which were regularly performed are still quite a sight nowadays at the Sultan’s squares and palace. Modern and traditional batik painting and the process of making batiks can be seen as well around the complex.
