Let The Music Feed Your Soul
by: Sophia

Officially opened on 17th August 1998, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) is home to the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra. It is the country’s first concert hall built for the purpose of classical music. Since then, the philharmonic hall has hosted an array of world class musicians, both solo and orchestral.

Besides classical performances, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas also presents jazz, world music and traditional music performances. With a wide variety of music, DFP aims to attract an eclectic mix of visitors to its doors. Such musical presentations would also provide its visitors with the opportunity for cultural enrichment.

DFP is strategically located directly below the Petronas Twin Towers. It is easily accessible for public transportation and parking is a breeze with Suria KLCC lending its parking spaces to the music hall. Such a central location also makes it the perfect place to see the sights and engage in some shopping before and after a performance.

After nine years of being in the business of music, DFP has now become a cultural symbol of Kuala Lumpur. It is the home to the country’s very own Philharmonic Orchestra and many world renowned musicians have graced its stage over the years. Names such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Dame Kiri Te Kenawa and Sir Neville Marriner have all performed together with the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra. DFP has also played host to large ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.

Not only does DFP cater to music listeners of all kinds, it also prides itself in its enrichment activities. Music enthusiasts will be able to enjoy pre-concert talks as well as other fun activities for children and adults. DFP plays an important role in cultivating the performing arts and providing an outlet for music enthusiasts to learn and enjoy music.

Even if you’re not a musician, it will definitely be an experience to enjoy the music in DFP’s world class concert hall. It is equipped with the latest in music technology which makes a night at the orchestra a night to remember. The Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra performs regularly at DFP and a full calendar of activities can be obtained at their website.
